The Upstate Carolina Angel Network, LLC (UCAN) is a group of accredited investors located in Upstate South Carolina who invest in and support start-up and early-stage, high-growth businesses in the Southeastern United States. Our members possess a broad array of business experiences and skills they bring to bear in helping to screen and evaluate potential portfolio companies. They also serve as a valuable resource for guidance and advice to entrepreneurs and their businesses once an investment is made. UCAN is not an investment fund, but rather, a network of investors who make individual investment decisions after working together to evaluate candidate companies. Since its inception in 2008, UCAN has invested more than $6 million in 24 companies.
The Upstate Carolina Angel Network (UCAN) was formed in early 2008 through the efforts of co-founders J.B. Holeman and Tim Reed, with support from the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce. The group held its first official meeting in April 2008.
Matt Dunbar is Managing Director for the Upstate Carolina Angel Network and is responsible for the day to day operations of the organization. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University and an MBA and Masters in Education from Stanford University. Matt has previously been a strategic management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Atlanta and a manufacturing and plastics engineer with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN.
Regular monthly meetings for investors are held on the third Tuesday of each month (excluding July and December). Meetings typically include presentations from one or two candidate companies and due diligence reports or updates on companies that have previously presented. We also include time for member education and networking.
UCAN is a member of the Angel Capital Association.
